Former Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe is producing a documentary about a stunt performer who was paralyzed from the chest down while working on the 2010 movie Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1.

According to reports, Sky and HBO Documentary Films will be producing David Holmes: The Boy Who Lived, which is described as being a “coming-of-age story of a prodigious teenage gymnast who formed an inextricable bond with Radcliffe.”

HBO says that the film will feature “intimate interviews with David, Daniel Radcliffe, friends, family, and former crew” and include themes of “living with adversity, growing up, forging identities in an uncertain world, and the bonds that bind us together and lift us up.”

Simon Chinn and Jonathan Chinn’s Lightbox along with Holmes and Amy Stares’ Ripple Productions are producing the doc, which will air next month. Radcliffe is exec producing with Holmes, director Dan Hartley, Sue Latimer, Sarah Spahovic, Nancy Abraham, Lisa Heller, Tina Nguyen and Poppy Dixon. Holmes, a trained gymnast who began stunt work at 14 years old, was Daniel Radcliffe’s stunt double on Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 when he suffered his life-changing injury. While practicing a stunt for the film in 2009, a planned explosion sent Holmes to the ground with such force that he suffered a spine injury that left him paralyzed from the chest down.

Since then, the pair have remained close and even started a podcast called Cunning Stunts back in 2020.

Now 42 years old, Holmes worked as Potter’s stunt double on all eight if the Harry Potter films. He also worked on projects such as Green Street Hooligans, The Golden Compass, National Treasure: Book of Secrets, and Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time.

David Holmes: The Boy Who Lived will be released on HBO and Max on Wednesday, November 15, at 9 p.m. EST.

Currently, Radcliffe is performing on Broadway in the show Merrily We Roll Along alongside Jonathan Groff (Mindhunter, The Matrix Revolutions), and Lindsay Mendez.
