Dashcam video captured the shocking moment a United Airlines plane hit a light pole and a delivery truck while landing at Newark Liberty International Airport on Sunday.
The international flight was carrying 221 passengers and 10 crew members when the incident occurred. Everyone on board was unharmed. The same can’t be said for the delivery truck driver. He was transported to a hospital with minor injuries, but he has since been released, according to the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.
United Airlines Flight 169, which was flying from Venice, Italy, to New Jersey, made contact with a light pole and the truck while landing at around 2:00 p.m. on Sunday.
“Upon its final approach into Newark International Airport, United flight 169 came into contact with a light pole,” United said in a statement to Fox Business. “The aircraft landed safely, taxied to the gate normally and no passengers or crew were injured.”

According to the New Jersey State Police, a preliminary investigation revealed the plane’s undercarriage and a landing tire impacted the truck. A light pole that the plane hit also struck a Jeep traveling on the Turnpike.
United Airlines stated that its maintenance crew was assessing the aircraft, while the Port Authority police reported minor damage.
“We will conduct a rigorous flight safety investigation into the incident and our crew has been removed from service as part of the process,” the airline said after the incident.
The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) have started investigations into the incident. A NTSB investigator is reportedly expected to arrive in Newark on Monday.
“The agency has directed United Airlines to secure and provide both the cockpit voice recorder and flight data recorder to support the investigation. A preliminary report outlining the facts and circumstances of the event is expected within 30 days,” NTSB told Fox Business.
