Dating took an unusual turn for Katie Kelly (@bykatiekelly) after a man she met was insistent about this one thing.
If the dating scene is the trenches, Katie Kelly (@bykatiekelly) is on the frontlines. The TikToker, who recently became single, has dived back into the world of dating—and viewers can’t believe what happened to her.
If there was a prize for the strangest first date behavior, this man she met would win hands down. The video, which has garnered 122,500 views, starts with Kelly saying, “And on today’s episode of a newly single girls guide to first dates, here’s what happened to me last night.”
She then goes on to describe how she went on a date with a man and asked him his height and weight. It turned out to be 6-foot-4 and 240 pounds.
When he asked her the same question, she said her stats. His response was to say he could easily bicep curl her body weight. Kelly says that she then told him that he couldn’t. Bizarrely, she notes that he then got “mad,” telling her not to say that again.
Still, Kelly says she was “married to the fact he can’t do it.”
Things got weirder the next morning.
The man sent her two videos with no context or accompanying message. The videos showed him bicep curling. But these weren’t ordinary dumbbells.
It became apparent that he went to the gym that morning specifically to find Kelly’s “exact body weight” in dumbbells.
“He did both arms in both videos,” she adds. “Any sentence? No context? Nothing to say? ‘Cause the message was loud and clear, baby. I get exactly what you’re saying. I am picking it up and putting it down, too.”
BroBible reached out to Kelly’s representative via email.
Green Or Red Flag?
Commenters shared similar experiences. “One time this guy just picked me up and bicep curled me,” one wrote.
“This weekend I told a guy I didn’t think he could lift me…. He picked me up like a BABY and carried me from the couch WAYYYYYY down the hall to his bed,” a second shared.
While a third said, “Gurl I had a guy drop down to squat, one arm lifted me to standing, and continued to static hold me for a full song during a concert. I was not scooched to his shoulder neither … I’m closer to 200 than 100lbs.”
Others were sure it was a green flag.
“Schedule that second date immediately,” a fourth remarked.
And a fifth teased, “I hear wedding bells.”
World Cup Player Rejects Woman Over Height
While this instance of fragile masculinity is harmless, it runs deeper for other men. In a viral TikTok posted during the soccer World Cup, user Nicola (@nicolaeick) detailed how, after finding out her height, a World Cup player rejected her.
She explained how she matched with the soccer player on a dating app, who then proceeded to tell her that she looked “fire.”
However, he lost his enthusiasm when he asked her her height, and she said 6-foot-1. “Oh,” she said the man replied. She said he told her that she was too tall for him and that he considered it “unladylike.”
“And here we are seven years later, and you know I work for Fifa and he plays for England and he played a match here in Dallas and he did indeed score a goal,” she concluded.
