D.C. Woman Films Something Monster-Like In Her Back Alleyway: ‘You See The Face, Right?!’

Walking around alone at night can be pretty spooky.

No matter how old or how experienced you are, there’s always something in the nighttime that can give you the creeps. For example, one man was driving alone at night when he claimed his truck was attacked by something “not human.” Another person got a scare after hearing some weird noises in their basement, then seeing their door suddenly move.

Now, a person has shared a video of a recent scare they received while looking down an alleyway. What is this thing?

What’s This Creepy Thing Hanging Out In This Alley?

In a video with over 1.1 million views, TikTok user Janet (@jannit28) shows something that “scared the crap” out of her.

The video shows her looking down an alley. In the alley is something that, on first glance, appears to be a very bushy, yet human-shaped, thing. After a few moments, it moves—sending Janet into shock.

“I’ve been wearing these contacts all day. My eyes and my brain are tired. This scared the crap out of me,” she writes in the caption. “You see the face, right?!”

Commenters Are Freaked Out

In the comments section, users were equally unsettled.

“That’s a gilly suit girl!! Someone is in there!!” exclaimed a user. For context, a “ghillie suit” is a form of camouflage designed to imitate its environment. This can occasionally involve disguising the wearer as a bush or shrub.

“The plants around that ‘tree’ aren’t moving. There’s no wind,” observed another.

“This would SERIOUSLY freak me out!!” exclaimed a third. “It just DID!!”

So, what is this thing, really?

Identifying The Alley Creature

In a follow-up video, Janet returned to the alley during the daytime for another look at the creature. Upon closer examination, it is just a tree.

“THIS is the monster from the other night,” she writes in the caption. “This is the back alley, and as you can see, it’s wide open, so winds come traveling through here, whipping around this corner and that is why the bush looked like it was moving/shivering.”

“The way this all lined up at that moment, the other night, had me screaming and running,” she continues. “How embarrassing because there are cameras all over back here.”

According to Janet, the tree actually belongs to her neighbor. Therefore, she cannot move it.

This Has Happened Before

Surprisingly, it’s actually fairly common for people to see a tree and, at first glance, mistake it for another human being (or another, more mysterious creature).

On Reddit, users have shared countless stories about getting scared as a result of seeing a strange figure in the distance—only to get closer and realize it was simply a tree.

For example, one Redditor was walking through the forest when he saw a creature standing upright with long, spindly legs. As you might expect, it was actually just a tree. Another Redditor claimed they were walking alone at night when the sight of a person in a tree made them stop “dead in [their] tracks.” Of course, upon closer examination, it was merely the natural formation of the tree.

So, if you’re walking alone at night and see a creature, it might be something dangerous—or it could just be a tree. Whether you want to hang around and find out which one it is is your decision.
