After her son and friends pulled off a dine-and-dash, one mother left this server and her manager speechless.

Dining-and-dashing is one of the most egregious events to happen to a server. However, one server was able to find a way to get even when one of the dashers left their phone behind.

In the TikTok, which garnered 147,500 views, Samantha (@misssamanthab) begins by explaining how a boy came in with a group of friends. They ordered a lot and asked for boxes, but when she returned to the table to give them out, she says the group was gone.

But then, she says she noticed that one forgot their phone. So, Samantha says she gave the phone to her manager.

A woman later came in and requested her son’s phone, Samantha continues. Samantha says the woman was quizzed in the hopes that she would “incriminate herself.” She notes that the son didn’t want to collect it himself. The manager, per Samantha, said that the reason for this was that he did a dine-and-dash with a tab of over $300.

To their shock, the mother allegedly didn’t bat an eyelid.

Her defense? They were teenagers. Apparently, this is their way of having fun, pushing boundaries, and “experimenting with the rules,” Samantha recalls.

“We looked at her and were like, ‘Ma’am that is stealing,'” Samantha adds.

“You know what’s stealing?” Samantha says the mother retorted. “The fact you won’t give me my son’s phone back.”

Things escalated when the woman calls the cops, Samantha says. Samantha says the woman accused the restaurant of withholding her son’s property. While Samantha and her manager explained what happened, the police still arrived.

When the mother told the cop what happened, he says that she pretty much called the police on herself.

Her son was in the car. The cop got him out, and he went into the restaurant, Samantha says. The boy, according to the server, acknowledged what he did. And in the end, she says his mother paid the tab. But the woman, Samantha says, made it clear she wasn’t tipping.

“Oh, really? Really, you thought I was expecting a tip after your child ran out on a $300 tab, and you said, ‘Let him experience life?'” Samantha asks. “I knew it wasn’t coming.”

In an Instagram message to BroBible, the TikToker said, “The only additional comment I’d have would be to raise your children better and not to condone bad behavior. They’re eventually going to enter the real world and be in for a rude awakening.”

‘The Mom Needs To Learn A Lesson’

Commenters couldn’t believe it. “Could the restaurant press charges? Seems like the mom needs to learn a lesson,” one suggested.

“”He’s just experimenting with the rules” and she’s teaching him there are no consequences for breaking the law????” a second pointed out.

“Well now he is experiencing life,” a third quipped. “He gets to find out that effing around lets you find out how the law works.”

A fourth remarked, “Truly unbelievable parenting. Meanwhile, some of us do NOT let our kids go out with friends until they understand that they must tip and how to calculate the tip!”

Others were less shocked.

“As a teacher the moms response didn’t surprise me in the least,” a fifth admitted. “I wrote a child up for cleaning out my prize bucket and the parent said, “Well you did buy that candy for students so why should it matter if he took it all? “”

What Are The Warning Signs Of A Dine-And-Dasher?

As previously reported by BroBible, the single biggest warning sign of a dine-and-dasher is when they order a larger amount of food that’s disproportionate to the amount they can eat. Usually, this applies best when it’s an individual dasher, but as Samantha’s story demonstrates, groups can dine-and-dash too.

Server and TikToker Sarah (@lilsaltine7) shared her encounter with a dine-and-dasher on the app.

She noted how the patron ordered “tons” of mixed drinks along with appetizers, entrees, and sides.

“If it’s like a small amount of people, and they’re ordering a ton of food, people like that are the type to dine and dash,” she told viewers.

When it came time to pay for the meal, the customer’s card declined. They then showed Sarah their banking app, proving it was empty.

“This couple overheard the whole debacle, and they were like, ‘We want to pay for his meal,'” she added. While the couple paid for the food, the manager comped the drinks.
