‘Have I Been Missing Out On The Dinner Cut Meat My Whole Life?’: Georgia Woman Goes To Boar’s Head Deli Counter For Meat. Then She Hears Someone Order The ‘Dinner Cut’

Surveys have found that half of Americans eat deli meat at least once a week. But with so many options for meats and cuts, going up to the deli counter can feel like a daunting and overwhelming task. That’s why many deli counters offer guides to help customers understand what can be available to them.

It was at a grocery store’s Boar’s Head deli counter that a Georgia shopper’s life was changed—perhaps for the better.

Her video, which has over 1.9 million views, features the deli’s display case. Text on her video reads: “The person in front of me at the deli ordered the dinner cut of their deli meat. Now, I’m wondering, have I been missing out on the dinner cut meat my whole life? What in the Boar’s Head are y’all using the dinner cut for? I need to know.”

As it turns out, the answer was right in front of her all along.

What Is ‘Dinner Cut’?

She inadvertently filmed the meat guide’s explanation of what “dinner cut” is intended for.

There are several meat cuts the deli offers, per the guide:

  • Shaved
  • Very Thin
  • Thin
  • Sandwich cut
  • Dinner Cut

It notes that “dinner-cut” meat is good for “salads, stir-frys, and meals.”

According to Webstaurant Store, dinner cut is the thickest slice of cold cut meat you can get, as it exceeds more than three-sixteenths of an inch.

What Can You Do With Dinner-Cut Deli Meat?

Many viewers shared what they use dinner-cut meat for.

One user said they use it to make a bologna sandwich. They referred to this monster of a sandwich as a “2 story mobile home.”

Another said they use dinner-cut ham and salami to make Italian salads.

A third said they use it to satiate their craving for Thanksgiving food. “I buy dinner cut turkey when I have a taste for a Thanksgiving meal randomly throughout the year..I make some gravy and it’s so good,” they wrote.

Another used it in a similar fashion. “For a ham dinner with only a few people and it is not worth buying an entire ham,” they shared.

And a fifth sarcastic viewer quipped, “Salads, stir-fry, and meals.”
