Documentary Grand Theft Auto Billion Dollar

Rockstar Games

As of April 9, 2018, Grand Theft Auto V was the most financially successful entertainment property ever, having raked in over $6 BILLION.

The game, mind you, was released in September of 2013 and it was still the sixth best-selling video game in the U.S. in 2017.

All told, the entire Grand Theft Auto video game franchise has shipped more than 250 million units worldwide.

So to call it a phenomenon would be putting it mildly.

Which explains why the franchise is now the subject of a feature-length documentary being produced by Salon Pictures (McQueen, The Spy Who Fell To Earth).

The film will be titled The Billion Dollar Game (not to be confused with the ESPN “30 For 30” documentary about Georgetown vs. Princeton in the 1989 NCAA Tournament).

Below is a first look behind-the-scenes in Miami of the movie.

According to Screen Daily, filming has already begun and it will combine archived with new interview footage.

Brit Rob Ryan (Breaking Habits) is signed up to direct and and IMDb currently lists the film as being scheduled for release on November 1, 2019. Stay tuned.
