This Dragon Size Comparison Puts ‘House Of The Dragon’ And ‘Game Of Thrones’ Dragons In Perspective

Dragon size comparison House of the Dragon

HBO / HOTD

When dragons were first introduced in HBO’s Game of Thrones there was no frame of reference for ‘big vs little’. There were only three dragons in existence and all were owned by Daenerys. Viewers watched as they grew from babies born in a fire to massive sizes but Drogon, Rhaegal, and Viserion weren’t terribly different in size.

With House of the Dragon, viewers really began to gain an understanding that some dragons were considerably smaller than others. There was one scene in the HOTD ‘Black Queen’ finale where Aemond’s Vhagar was seen in the storm clouds flying above Prince Lucerys ‘Luke’ Velaryon’s immensely smaller Arrax.

The imagery of Vhagar flying above Arrax was a shot that really drove home the massive size discrepancies across the dragons in this world. And since then there have been some great videos and dragon size comparison charts illustrating those discrepancies.
