Spend enough time in the ocean and you are bound to have a close encounter with a shark at some point. It’s their ocean and they are everywhere. More often than not, however, we don’t even realize they are there when sharks are close by. But in this instance that water is so clear and the hammerhead shark is so big they would’ve undoubtedly seen it even without the drone footage.
Thankfully for you and me enjoying this at home, the drone was flying and they captured this stunning footage of a close encounter with a hammerhead shark in Palm Beach, Florida.
The massive hammerhead shark can be seen approaching the set of people paddleboarding off Florida’s Atlantic Coast and investigating the paddleboarders by getting eerily close. While this is certainly a tense moment and you can see the paddleboarders have tucked their entire bodies and limbs up onto the paddleboard, there’s really no sense of danger here when watching from above, it’s all curiosity.
Drone Captures Hammerhead Shark Swimming Up To Paddleboarders In Florida
Evan Parness is the person who was flying the drone overhead, according to UPI. In a Facebook post, he wrote “this massive hammer was around all morning hunting for blacktip sharks and these paddleboarders got the experience of a lifetime. This shark checked them out multiple times. It’s really amazing to see just how large that shark is next to the boards.”
I’ve been this close to a big Hammerhead Shark only once in my life. It was down in The Bahamas and we were out on jet skis in the crystal clear water. The hammerhead was easily twice the length of the jet ski I was on and didn’t seem to be the slightest bit bothered by the fact that a loud jet ski was cruising alongside him.
