Dua Lipa is following up her appearance as Mermaid Barbie in Greta Gerwig’s billion-dollar-grossing smash hit Barbie with what appears to be quite an expansive role in Argylle, the new film from Kingsman and X-Men: First Class director Matthew Vaughn.

Ahead of the release of the first official trailer for Argylle, a couple of new images further showcased Lipa’s character.

In one of the photos, she’s sitting at a seemingly tropical-set outdoor table alongside stars Henry Cavill and John Cena, and in the other instantly viral image, she’s got her legs wrapped around Cavill’s shoulders are the pair engage in a dance.

In addition to the aforementioned trio of Lipa, Cavill, and Cena, Argylle also stars Sam Rockwell, Bryce Dallas Howard, Bryan Cranston, Catherine O’Hara, Samuel L. Jackson, Ariana DeBose, Rob Delaney, Sofia Boutella, Jing Lusi, and more.

The film is based on the still-unreleased novel of the same name by first-time author Elly Conway. However, given that Dallas Howard is playing a character that’s an author named Elly Conway who gets sucked into the world of spies, perhaps Conway doesn’t exist at all and is just a meta piece of marketing.

Conway is also virtually untraceable on the internet, which is an insane thing to say in the year 2023.

Here is the official synopsis for Argylle, via Universal Pictures:

Bryce Dallas Howard is Elly Conway, the reclusive author of a series of best-selling espionage novels, whose idea of bliss is a night at home with her computer and her cat, Alfie. But when the plots of Elly’s fictional books—which center on secret agent Argylle and his mission to unravel a global spy syndicate—begin to mirror the covert actions of a real-life spy organization, quiet evenings at home become a thing of the past.

Accompanied by Aiden (Sam Rockwell), a cat-allergic spy, Elly (carrying Alfie in her backpack) races across the world to stay one step ahead of the killers as the line between Elly’s fictional world and her real one begins to blur.

The 28-year-old is also currently working on her third studio album, which will be a follow-up to her 2020-released Grammy award-winning record Future Nostalgia, was featured singles such as “Levitating”, “Don’t Start Now”, “Physical” and “Break My Heart”.

Argylle will be released in movie theaters in the United States on Friday, February 2, 2024, before streaming on AppleTV+ sometime thereafter.
