Dune: Part Two is not only living up to its massive expectations but is exceeding them.

Following the film’s premiere earlier this week, the reviews for Dune: Part Two have been overwhelmingly positive, with the consensus seeming to be that it’s both one of the best sequels and one of the best science fiction movies of all time.

The hard data also suggests that Dune: Part Two is a massive hit as its scores on various websites make it among the best-reviewed movies ever made.

With a score of 9.4/10 on IMDB, Dune: Part Two is the highest-rated film in the history of the website. Additionally, Dune: Part Two also boats a 97% on Rotten Tomatoes and a 4.5 on Letterboxd.

Even anecdotal reviews have been off the charts, as the one and only Christopher Nolan compared the film to Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back.

“If, to me, Dune was like Star Wars, then Dune 2 is The Empire Strikes Back, which is my favorite Star Wars film. I think it’s just a great expansion of all that was introduced in the first one,” Nolan said earlier this year.

Here is the official synopsis for Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part Two, via Warner Bros.

“Dune: Part Two will explore the mythic journey of Paul Atreides as he unites with Chani and the Fremen while on a warpath of revenge against the conspirators who destroyed his family. Facing a choice between the love of his life and the fate of the known universe, he endeavors to prevent a terrible future only he can foresee.”

Dune: Part Two boasts an outrageously star-studded cast that includes the likes of Timothee Chalamet, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Josh Brolin, Dave Bautista, Austin Butler, Florence Pugh, Léa Seydoux, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Stellan Skarsgård, Charlotte Rampling, Javier Bardem, and Christopher Walken.

The film will be officially released in movie theaters on Friday, March 1.
