A Dunkin' customer has caused discourse after sharing how an employee told her that she needed to pay 50 cents for a receipt.
Asking for a receipt is pretty normal practice. But one customer was taken aback upon being told by a Dunkin’ drive-thru employee that they charge 50 cents per receipt.
In the video, which has garnered 31,600 views, a miffed user called @yourticktocksister starts by saying, “This message is for Dunkin’ donuts. This does not seem correct. She then thanks the person in the drive-thru and explains the situation while in the car.
“Can somebody please send help?” she asks. She then goes on to say that her friend introduced her to Dunkin’ lattes and that she has become “obsessed” with them. After buying two of them, the employee didn’t give her the total, according to the customer. And when she asked for the receipt, she says the worker said it was 50 cents.
“Sir, wait,” she says. “Dunkin’ donuts, is this correct? This cannot be correct. I’m confused. Is this proper protocol for here? Because if that’s the case, I’m high-tailing it back to Tim Hortons, and I’m not putting up with this. Because at the very minimum, if I’m spending $14 on two drinks, I want 25 points on Fetch for my receipt; is this correct?”
BroBible reached out to the TikToker and Dunkin’ via email.
Is This Suspicious Behavior?
Commenters were suspicious.
“Wow!” one wrote. “He’s lying. Never heard of such a thing. He probably added a tip for himself. I’ve seen a few videos of them doing that.”
“I’m a DD frequent flyer- I have never even heard of that,” a second confirmed. “I always have receipts on the cup with a sticker. Free.”
“That would be fraud and never heard of such a ridiculous thing,” a third added. “Maybe they are doing this to make a tip jar. Again fraud.”
“I would call corporate sounds like something fishy is going on at that store,” a fourth suggested. “And are y’all going to give me a receipt for the $0.50 I paid for the receipt because I’m gonna need that.”
A fifth described the practice as “very shady” and commented that “if this is correct I’m done there too.”
BroBible couldn’t find any evidence that Dunkin’ customers need to pay for receipts.
Does Dunkin’ Add Unauthorized Tips?
As previously reportedly by BroBible, there have been multiple occasions where Dunkin’ appeared to add tips to orders without informing the customer. In one TikTok, Josh Melton (@imjoshmelton) shared how something “really strange” happened during his trip to Dunkin’.
After taking his order, he says Dunkin’ charged him $25.80. “I’m like, ‘All right.’ I go up to the window. I pay $25.80,” he says, adding that while he thought the number was a bit high, he dismissed it.
“And I notice something that’s kind of strange,” he adds. “What is this right here? Charged tips? $5.16 for charged tips? I didn’t tip anyone anything. Why was I charged that?”
He continues, “So I called them out on it. And to be fair, they made it right. They gave me $5.16 in cash. But how many people this could’ve happened to—I have no idea. It totally baffled me, and they seemed like they had no idea how this could’ve possibly happened. What do you guys think?”
Similarly, another TikTok user complained that they were tipped 82 cents on a $5.44 order—and only realized when they got their receipt. “I don’t care about the 82 cents, but the point is you can’t and take someone’s money without—if they didn’t give it, you can’t just automatically take it. Not on the tip, you can’t,” he insists.
