Ebon Moss-Bachrach obviously has a great relationship with his The Bear co-star Ayo Edebiri, as the former sent the latter what’s surely the most depressing “Happy Birthday” message of all time.

Edebiri, who celebrated her 28th birthday on Tuesday, October 3, took to Instagram to share a screenshot of the text she got from Moss-Bachrach, who is 18 years her senior.

In the brief yet brutal text, the 46-year-old Moss-Bachrach can be seen saying “Every birthday is a small death. HBD.”

Seeing that text, it certainly isn’t hard to see why the creators of The Bear thought he’d be such a good fit to play Cousin Richie.

Both Moss-Bachrach and Edebiri have been on incredible runs in recent years, largely thanks to their star-making turns on The Bear, which received 13 Emmy nominations for its first season before season two became Hulu’s most-watched season premiere in the network’s history.

Edebiri, in particular, has had a massive 2023, as she appeared in five film projects in addition to The Bear.

Not only did Edebiri star in the films The Sweet East, Theater Camp, and Bottoms this year (the latter two have been particularly well-received), but she also had voice roles in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem.

She’s also had roles in Abbott Elementary, History of the World Part II, Mulligan, Kiff, Clone High, I Think You Should Leave with Tim Robinson, and Black Mirror this year.

As for Moss-Bachrach, in addition to The Bear, he’s made a name for himself with roles in projects such as Girls, The Punisher, Andor, and the Jennifer Lawrence comedy No Hard Feelings, which hit theaters earlier this summer.

At this time, while The Bear has not been renewed for a third season, its success and cliffhanger at the end of season two all but guarantee it will be.
