Elon Musk Says He Doesn’t Smoke Weed And There’s One Reason I Actually Believe Him

The Joe Rogan Experience

On far too many nights, I resist the urge to sleep in favor of dicking around on the internet, an objectively unhealthy habit that’s largely motivated by the irrational anxiety that I might miss out on some major story while I’m asleep.

However, every once in a while, my ill-advised decision to forgo sleep pays off, which is how I was front and center on the night the internet erupted when Elon Musk smoked weed with Joe Rogan.

Unfortunately, the fun was short-lived as far as Musk was concerned and the entrepreneur soon found himself on the receiving end of an Air Force investigation (NASA would also eventually decide to take a closer look at things).

Marijuana might not ruin as many lives as your D.A.R.E. officer implied but it hasn’t made Musk’s any easier, as he was also forced to resign as Tesla’s chairman and pay the SEC $20 million after making a joke about the weed number on Twitter.

Worth it.

It wasn’t too shocking to learn that the guy who’s asked questions like “What if cars drove us?” might occasionally spark up a marijuana cigarette but it turns out we might have the wrong idea.

According to Gizmodo60 Minutes recently posted a (now-removed) clip of an interview with Musk that will air Sunday night where he was asked about his marijuana usage.

Despite the existence of the clip from the podcast, Musk denied he actually smokes, saying:

“I do not smoke pot. As anybody who watched that podcast could tell, I have no idea how to smoke pot, or anything. I don’t know how to smoke anything, honestly.”

If it’s good enough for Bill Clinton I guess it’s good enough for him.

As skeptical as I am, I’m actually going to give Musk the benefit of the doubt here— largely because he earnestly refers to marijuana as “pot.”

There’s no way a guy who does that smokes weed on the regular.
