Thanks to her work at Kitty Oppenheimer in Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer, Emily Blunt received her first-ever Academy Award nomination.

While receiving accolades might not be the primary goal of an actor’s career, it certainly plays a part, which means the moment you find out that you’ve been nominated for an Oscar should be a seminal, memorable one.

And for Emily Blunt, it certainly was, albeit for perhaps the wrong reasons.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter for an interview, Blunt revealed that she was picking up her dog’s poop when she found out about her long-awaited Oscar nomination.

“I did have a brief cry in the middle of Brooklyn, brief weep directly after picking up my dog’s poop,” she said about getting the call with the news of her Academy Award nomination.

“I did pick up her poop and then I heard that I got nominated so it was perfect,” she said, before also explaining that her husband John Krasinski “had a really good cry as well, after helping me with the poop. I think he went and put it in the trash and then we both cried.”

Blunt is just one of many aspects of Oppenheimer to be nominated for an Academy Award this year, as the film is also competing in another 12 categories: Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor, Best Director, Best Original Score, Best Cinematography, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Costume Design, Best Production Design, Best Makeup and Hairstyling, Best Film Editing, and Best Sound.

Unfortunately for Blunt, however, she’s not expected to have much of a chance at winning, as Da’Vine Joy Randolph is currently running as the favorite for her work as Mary Lamb in The Holdovers.

Oppenheimer will begin streaming on Peacock on Friday, February 16, which is a little less than a month before the Oscars ceremony.
