While Morgan Freeman had no issues with taking Qatari money to take part in the World Cup opening ceremony, Eminem, on the other hand, had a bit more backbone.

During a recent appearance on REAL 92.3 FM’s radio show Big Boy’s Neighborhood, 50 Cent revealed that Eminem turned down $8 million to perform at the 2022 World Cup, which was controversially held in Qatar.

“I got an inquiry about World Cup, and they had a budget of $9 million. I would’ve taken one, and then the other eight would have been for him.” However, it was quickly shot down after sharing the proposal with Eminem’s manager Paul Rosenberg. “[Paul] was like, he’s not gonna do it.” [Uproxx via REAL 92.3 FM]

Ultimately, Jung Kook of BTS performed at the opening ceremony, which featured live narration from the 85-year-old Freeman.

The 2022 World Cup was capped off with a victory for Lionel Messi and Argentina, who overcame France in what many are calling the greatest World Cup final of all time. The game finished regular time tied at 2-2 and extra time tied at 3-3 before it was ultimately decided by penalties, which Argentina won 4-2.

In addition to his tidbit about Eminem and the World Cup, the 47-year-old 50 Cent — who has spent the past decade transitioning from rapping to acting/producing — said he’s also developing an 8 Mile TV series. At this time, though, it’s unclear how, if at all, it will connect to the original 2002 film.

As for what Em has been up to musically in recent years, his latest original album, Music to Be Murdered By, was released back in 2020, while a second greatest hits compilation, Curtain Call 2, was released back in August of last year.
