It’s easy to understand the appeal of escaping to a cabin tucked away in the wilderness, the kind of place where wild animals are typically the only things that will bother you. Unfortunately, that was not the case with one in Canada that somehow disappeared from the lot where it was constructed without a trace.
If you’ve poisoned your brain with enough horror movies, a cabin in the woods may be at the bottom of your list of ideal vacation destinations, but there are plenty of people who rely on those structures to get a respite from the hustle and bustle of everyday life while taking advantage of the tranquil environment they tend to offer.
There’s no shortage of options to pick from if you’re trying to go that route in Canada. The vast majority of the country is comprised of uninhabited terrain, and it’s also filled with fairly remote towns that can serve as a lifeline to modern society if you want to build a modest structure in their vicinity.
That was the case with someone who erected a cabin outside of a rural community in New Brunswick, and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police are asking the public for help after the entire thing was seemingly stolen.
Thieves apparently made off with a cabin outside of a town in New Brunswick
New Brunswick is the eighth-largest province in Canada by population (and fourth when it comes to density), but around half of the approximately 775,000 people who reside there live in urban areas located in its southern region.
That label does not apply to the town of Kedgwick, a town that’s home to just under 2,000 people in New Brunswick that’s located around 15 miles below the border of Quebec. It’s situated toward the northern tip of the Appalachian Mountains and is surrounded by thousands of acres of wooded areas that serve as prime cabin real estate.
According to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, someone decided to build one off a road around two miles outside of downtown Kedgwick, but things took an unexpected turn this summer when they discovered it was nowhere to be found.

It’s not entirely clear when the owner discovered the cabin was gone, but the RCMP believe what has been chalked up to a suspected theft on the property on Rang 9 & 10 Road “occurred at the end of June 2026.” It seems like it would have been a pretty sizable undertaking, but it appears the thieves responsible were able to evade detection when you consider authorities are turning to the public for tips.
This isn’t an entirely unprecedented situation, as there have been other stories involving thieves who managed to steal entire houses, including some “tiny home” thefts in Ontario in 2020 that were facilitated by the trailers the diminutive domiciles were perched on.
