The reviews for Extraction 2 are in, and according to most of the critics who have seen the film, the second Tyler Rake adventure is even more exhilarating than the first.

Having seen the film myself (twice), Extraction 2 is bigger and better than the first in every way imaginable — sheer scope, character development, set piece scale and difficulty: all of it.

Most of the reviews from across the industry seem to agree, which is certainly good news for fans of the franchise as director Sam Hargrave told our Post Credit Podcast that a third film will be greenlit if the second is well received.

The review from The Daily Telegraph compared Extraction to the Bourne franchise: “Hemsworth has landed on his Bourne, and this is his Supremacy.”

That’s not the only beloved action franchise that Extraction 2 has been compared to, as The Wrap‘s review says it could become a challenger to John Wick:

“Extraction 2 feels meatier in its action-packed set pieces than its predecessor, with Chris Hemsworth’s approachable and brawny Rake giving puppy avenger John Wick a genuine run for his money when it comes to high-kicks and knockouts.”

“Hargrave, a stuntman turned director, knows where to put his camera for maximum impact, and genuinely disturbing foley work showcases sounds of crunching bones and splattering blood. You feel every punch land,” hails the UK’s Empire Magazine.

The review from Collider believes the 20-minute one-take might wind up being the legacy of the franchise:

“Sometimes action movies can earn a good reputation based on the strength of one particularly well-executed scene and Extraction 2‘s prison heist may be enough to keep the film on the right side of genre history.”

In addition to Hemsworth as Tyler Rake, Extraction 2 stars Golshifteh Farahnai, Adam Bessa, Olga Kurylenko, Daniel Bernhardt, Tinatin Dalakishvili, and Idris Elba.

Our Post Credit Podcast had the chance to interview director Sam Hargrave and star Golshifteh Farahani, so check those out below:
