‘The Falcon and The Winter Soldier’ Writer Says “Early” MCU Characters Will Appear In The Series

Marvel Studios

If it weren’t for this little global pandemic thing, The Falcon and The Winter Soldier would’ve been in our lives for a few months now, as it was originally supposed to drop in August, making it the first Marvel Cinematic Universe series to hit Disney+.

Due to the coronavirus, though, The Falcon and The Winter Soldier was forced to suspend production and ultimately delay its release into 2021, and that’s a damn shame, because everything we’ve heard about the series thus far — such as Anthony Mackie comparing it to a six-hour movie — has made the project sound like one of the more unique entries into the MCU thus far.

That said, while we may have to keep waiting, it certainly sounds like the wait is going to be worth it, especially when considering comments like these from screenwriter Derek Kolstad, who promised that the show is going to be “f–king cool” and will feature some of the “earliest” characters in the MCU.

“[The show is] going to be f–king cool,” Kolstad said. “I’m very proud of and honored by what it came to be. Here’s what I’ll say: growing up, everyone would give someone like [Batman character] Robin shit. But Robin’s pretty badass, and became pretty badass in the comics. Taking secondary characters and putting them in the primary roles, and they’re cooler. They’re more interesting. There’s more humanity, more longing, more suffering, and coming to grips with who and what they are. What I will say is that there are characters from the earliest Marvel movies that are coming back. We’re layering them in and reinventing them in a way that’s gonna shift the storytelling structure. It’s f–king awesome.” [via Script Apart Podcast]

WandaVision, which has taken The Falcon and The Winter Soldier‘s place as the first MCU series on Disney+, is set to hit the Mouse House streamer sometime this year, possibly around Thanksgiving.
