The First ‘Avatar 2’ Teaser Will Reportedly Debut In A Few Weeks Ahead Of This Movie

The First 'Avatar 2' Teaser Will Reportedly Debut In A Few Weeks

20th Century Studios/Disney

  • The first Avatar, the highest-grossing film in the history of movies, hit theaters back in 2009.
  • After 13 long years, the sequel will finally hit theaters on December 16, 2022.
  • According to reports, the first teaser for the film will drop in May alongside Doctor Strange 2.

After 13 long years, the sequel to Avatar will apparently be hitting theaters this December, as the film is currently slated to release on December 16.

Given the size of Avatar 2 — thanks to a recent re-release in China, Avatar remains the highest-grossing movie of all time, barely edging out Avengers: Endgame — marketing for the massive project will begin in just a few short weeks.

According to a report from The Ankler, the first teaser for Avatar 2 (which still does not have an official title despite previous rumors of it being called Avatar: The Way of the Water) will be attached to Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which will be hitting theaters on May 6. Avatar 2 is a 20th Century Studios film and Multiverse of Madness is a Marvel Studios film — both of which are owned by Disney.

Debuting the first teaser for Avatar 2 ahead of Multiverse of Madnesscertainly makes sense, as the film will not only be the MCU’s first of the year, but the franchise’s first film following the massive success of Spider-Man: No Way Home. Debuting in early May, Multiverse of Madness also effectively serves as the launch of the 2022 summer movie season, which is expected to be the biggest in years.

In addition to the returning cast of Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Stephen Lang, Giovanni Ribisi, Avatar 2 will also star Kate Winslet, Cliff Curtis, Edie Falco, Brendan Cowell, Michelle Yeoh, Jemaine Clement, Oona Chaplin, and Vin Diesel.
