The first teaser trailer for the new The Exorcist movie starring Scarlett Johansson has been released. The full trailer for the film, officially titled The Exorcist: Martyrs, will be released on Friday.
Universal released the first teaser for The Exorcist: Martyrs, Mike Flanagan’s take on the franchise with Academy Award nominee Scarlett Johansson in the lead role, on Tuesday night, ahead of the trailer’s debut on Friday.
Universal released a 15-second teaser Wednesday for Mike Flanagan’s The Exorcist: Martyrs, starring Scarlett Johansson as a single-mother cop whose son is targeted by a satanic killer
According to reports on the film, Johansson plays a single-mother cop who watches the execution of a notorious satanic serial killer, giving the movie a very Se7en-esque vibe. His crimes then continue supernaturally, targeting her 12-year-old son, and priests join her investigation. John Leguizamo is set to play the antagonistic killer, known as Father Sunday.
The cast also includes Laurence Fishburne, Diane Lane, Hamish Linklater, Carl Lumbly and Carla Gugino, among others. Flanagan wrote and directed the film, which is a Universal and Blumhouse production.
Flanagan has already warned fans what to expect. “It’s viciously dark,” he said. “It’s unsafely dark at times, and we went places in there that I’ve never, never gone on any of my sets emotionally.”
Flanagan has developed a reputation as something of a modern horror master through his films Hush, Ouija: Origin of Evil, Gerald’s Game, Doctor Sleep, and Clayface (which he wrote the original story for), and his Netflix series The Haunting of Hill House, The Haunting of Bly Manor, Midnight Mass, The Midnight Club, and The Fall of the House of Usher. He also wrote and directed Prime Video’s upcoming Carrie series.
The Exorcist: Martyrs will be released in movie theaters in the United States on Friday, March 12, 2027.
