A man says his seatmate spilled water on him and was unapologetic about it. He saw an opportunity to get revenge—and he took it.
Who you end up sitting next to on a flight has the ability to drastically alter your flight experience. Some seatmates will want to talk your ear off, or you can end up next to a crying baby.
In a TikTok with over 158,300 views as of this writing, Demetrius Fields (@demetriusfields) reveals what his seatmate did to him and how he got his revenge later in the flight.
“I just did the pettiest thing I think I’ve ever done,” Fields begins.
The beef started when the man next to Fields ended up spilling his water on him as the flight attendant collected trash. The man saw that it spilled on Fields but didn’t apologize for the accident.
“He saw that it spilled, and then he looked at me. He doesn’t say, ‘I’m sorry.’ He goes, ‘It’s water.’ Motherf——. I don’t give a f— what is made up. Why did you make me wet? Apologize. What’s wrong with you?” Fields shares.
The man never apologized for the accident, according to Fields. This provoked Fields to do something petty to get his revenge.
When the man went to the bathroom, Fields discovered what movie he was watching. The seatmate was watching Steven Spielberg’s “Disclosure Day,” and Fields found out which part of the movie he was at.
“I loaded up on my screen 15 minutes farther into the movie than he was,” Fields says.
By putting on the same film 15 minutes ahead, Fields is intentionally trying to ruin and spoil the movie for his seatmate.
“I’m spoiling his movie actively. He doesn’t even know it at first,” Fields continues.
Fields mentions that it took the man about 15 minutes before realizing the petty act. Eventually the man did connect the dots to what Fields had done.
“He noticed, and I could tell it ruined ‘Disclosure Day.’ Sorry, Steven Spielberg,” he concludes.
How Do You Deal With A Rude Or Annoying Seatmate On Flight?
Traveling on planes can bring out the worst in passengers. Flying can be stressful considering people deal with cancellations, delays, extra fees, and long security lines. And the cramped seats don’t help the cause. So it’s not out of the ordinary that you may encounter a rude person on a flight or end up being next to one.
When dealing with a rude person, it’s best to remain calm and sober. Tempers can easily flare on flights as people are already on edge dealing with traveling logistics. Airline attendants are trained to use empathy when deescalating problem passengers. Flight attendants will calmly address issues that arise, so it’s best to take a page from their training book.
If you want to entirely ignore the rude person or a chatty person, putting on headphones is the universal sign of please do not disturb. If the person ignores this, a more direct approach can be taken. Politely telling the person directly that you are going to watch a movie now and putting on the headphones should be enough of a cue to end the interaction. If that person prevails, a flight attendant should be notified, and a potential reseating can take place.
‘I Need To Up My Game’
Viewers in the comment section were impressed by the level of petty Fields displayed.
“’Why’d you make me wet?’ is not a question you should ever ask a stranger,” one TikTok commenter wrote.
“Diabolical. I’m proud of you though,” another added.
“I’ve gotten lazy, I need to up my game,” one commented.
“This is actually genius,” one says.
While others chimed in on what they would’ve done if they were in that situation.
“Turn to him and say ‘it’s a movie’” one shared.
“I would’ve spilt water on his seat and said ‘it’s water’” another wrote.
“If I accidentally spilled water on someone I would apologize profusely and be anxious the rest of the flight thinking they hate me,” one added.
