Woman Boards Flight In Washington—Then The Flight Attendant Makes More Than One Passenger Cry With Her Announcement: ‘She’s A Lightworker’

Many people are scared of flying. In fact, it’s one of the most common fears in the United States.

Almost three-quarters of travelers admit to having some nerves before boarding a flight. Some may fear that something terrible will happen to their flight. Others simply worry about common in-flight ailments, such as air sickness or getting aches and pains from the tiny, uncomfortable chairs.

Workers for airlines are trained to assist flyers who need a little extra help calming down before, during, and after a flight. One flight attendant’s method for doing this recently had the internet talking.

What Happened On This Woman’s Flight?

In a video with over 393,000 views, Dr. Elisabeth Marnik (@sciencewhizliz) shows herself sitting on a flight.

According to Marnik, as the plane landed, the flight attendant made an announcement reminding passengers that “we are all carrying burdens and baggage that no one else can see.”

From there, the flight attendant began to offer passengers the opportunity to remove some of their emotional baggage.

“[As you] get off the plane this afternoon, I will have my hands out,” the flight attendant starts. “If you would like to leave a burden, a problem, a stress of some kind in your life in my hands, I will take that. I will put that in our airplane trash can, dispose of that for you. You can get off the plane hopefully feeling a little bit lighter than you did when you got on in Washington.”

“Now, take that hope to your family and friends today,” she concludes. “Thank you again for flying with us. We do hope to see you again soon. Have a good rest of your day and a safe journey.”

In the cabin, the message is received positively, with one flyer saying, “That’s sweet.”

“She then held her hands out as each passenger passed. Just like she promised,” Marnik writes in the video’s overlay text. “What a beautiful reminder and gesture that we are all carrying burdens and baggage. Sometimes we need to be willing to let someone else carry them with us.”

How Airline Staff Are Trained To Help Nervous Flyers

In the flight world, this is an unorthodox method for calming passengers. That said, flight attendants engage in all sorts of other relaxing practices to ensure flyers have the best experience possible.

For example, many flight attendants go through hospitality training. This allows them to serve customers in a way that they will find both pleasing and reassuring.

Some go further and learn methods of de-escalation. When there are unruly passengers, techniques learned during de-escalation training allow flight attendants to resolve such problems without incident. In cases where passengers are simply going through a rough time, the same techniques can be used to help them relax.

For example, in June 2025, a flight attendant went viral after they were captured calmly talking a passenger through a panic attack. This involved kneeling in front of the passenger, holding their hand, and instructing them on proper breathing techniques.

In 2024, another flight attendant went viral after explaining her airline’s approach to handling flyers with issues. She described it as being similar to a kindergarten teacher, making sure to listen and use appropriate body language to appear empathetic and non-threatening.

Commenters Love It

In the comments section of the video, users expressed their appreciation for the flight attendant.

“I had her as a flight attendant. My parents had just passed away, she was so precious to me,” a user recalled.

“Take note folks. the world is changing,” another offered. “I know it’s hard to see with all the negative being thrown down our throats but the world is changing and it’s going to be so good. this woman is amazing we need 2 million more of her.”

“I’d leave that plane sobbing in the most magical, trauma releasing fashion,” a third stated. “She’s a queen.”
