A Florida man was unexpectedly “launched” into a garbage truck during a routine trash pickup on Tuesday in Pensacola.
It took firefighters from five different fire trucks and other rescue teams had to be called to come get him out of it.
According to a Facebook post by Escambia County Fire Rescue, “At 9:46 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 9, Escambia County Fire Rescue units E1, E12, SQ3, S4 and BC3 responded to a medical incident at the 7900 block of Pine Forest Road.
“Shortly after arrival, the crew of E1 confirmed that a person was launched into the garbage truck and trapped inside. With the use of ladders inside the truck, firefighters were able to safely rescue the patient. Once secured, the patient was transported to an area hospital.
“Assistance during the rescue was provided by Escambia County EMS.”
The condition of the man stuck in the garbage truck was not released, nor was the reason why he was inside a dumpster.
Strangely enough, a person getting dumped into a garbage truck by accident is not all that uncommon.
Just last month, a garbage collectors in Moncton, New Brunswick pitched a man who was sleeping inside a dumpster into their truck.
“Thankfully, the driver of this truck heard the man screaming before it was too late,” said Charlie Burrell of The Humanity Project, where the dumpster was located. “Luckily, [the man] climbed inside of our cardboard dumpster and not our garbage dumpster as that is crushed immediately
Not everyone who this happens to is so lucky, however.
In October, a person who was inside a dumpster that was being collected in Lynnwood, Washington accidentally got put into a garbage truck.
Police were able to help the person get out of the garbage truck, but they would later die from their injuries at the local hospital.
