Cue all of the “Man of Steal” jokes. The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office recently released body camera footage of deputies apprehending a Florida man dressed as Superman for breaking into a boat and stealing some power tools.
On July 25, a boat owner reported to the sheriff’s office that someone had entered his boat’s cabin while it was anchored behind his home and stolen various tools, prompting deputies to dispatch to Ruskin, Florida.
When the Hillsborough County deputies arrived in Ruskin, about 30 minutes from Tampa, they encountered a 57-year-old man wearing a Superman getup, complete with a red cape.
The man, who the sheriff’s office described as a convicted felon, allegedly confessed to the theft on body-camera video the sheriff’s office recently made public.
“I went on the boat,” he admitted in the video. “I only took three items.”
Police immediately took him into custody and charged him with burglary of an unoccupied conveyance and petit theft first degree. Jail records show that authorities have since released him on a $5,500 bond.

In other recent Superman-related news, around the same time as the arrest in Ruskin, Florida, police arrested two motorcyclists in Kuala Lumpur for performing dangerous “Superman” stunts after the footage went viral on TikTok.
Someone uploaded a video of two motorcyclists lying face down on their motorcycles with their legs straight behind them on TikTok on July 21, which set off a police investigation.
Apparently, people in Malaysia have made performing such stunts a “thing,” as on July 16, authorities charged three women, including two underage girls, with dangerous riding after they performed similar “Superman” stunts on their motorcycles.
Videos of motorcyclists in Malaysia performing these stunts have been going viral since at least 2024.
