A Fox News segment set social media on fire Thursday night when a guest appeared to be wearing a mask straight out of Mission: Impossible. Many viewers are convinced that the analyst was someone wearing a prosthetic face mask to look just like retired U.S. Vice-Admiral Robert Harward.
The reason for the former Navy SEAL’s appearance on Fox News was to discuss the war in Iran, but the only thing many people on the internet cared about was what was going on with his neck.

“Are we going to pretend dude isn’t wearing a mask?” read the top comment on the YouTube version of the interview
“Can anyone really explain this? Why does it look like Fox News put a man with a mask in their show?” one X user asked.
“This is the first time I’ve seen one of these ‘they’re wearing a mask’ conspiracy theories that I actually find believable because that’s NOT natural,” another viewer wrote on Reddit.
“Either he’s wearing a mask or he had an emergency tracheotomy just before going to air,” read another comment.
“First of all, right, if you’ve had an operation and you’ve been left this f—— up and you have an open hole in your neck, I don’t know what the f— you’ve had done, but you need help quickly,” someone else said in a YouTube video that analyzed Harward’s appearance.
He also shared a clip of a woman who used to work for the CIA discussing how realistic the masks agents are given to wear when they go undercover. At one point, she even said she once wore a mask that not only made her a completely different race, but a man. When asked if anyone would notice the mask, she said it was highly unlikely. And this was over a decade ago.
Of course, several explanations, other than the conspiracy theories that it was someone wearing a Robert Harward mask, were put forth.
One person suggested that it was just a filter that does skin-smoothing not mapping correctly. Another thought it might have been caused by a double shadow created by the production’s lighting.
So far, reaching out to Robert Harward and Fox News for an explanation of what was going on with his neck has gone unanswered.
