Are you all caught up on the past seven seasons of HBO’s Game of Thrones? Of course, you are. Otherwise, you wouldn’t have clicked this article to read about something that happened in the Season 7 finale, would you have?

Now let’s jump right in… The Game of Thrones Season 7 finale wrapped up with Tyrion Lannister standing outside of a bedroom door listening in. Daenerys Targaryen and Jon Snow were on the inside, knocking boots. It was nearly impossible to gauge Tyrion’s reaction to these two politically powerful characters hiznitting the skizzins.

Was he jealous? Was he angry? Scared? Was this just a perverted moment from The Halfman who spent the first half of the Game of Thrones series chasing hookers? Well, Peter Dinklage spoke on this a while back to try and shed some light on the situation but he didn’t really do a great job at explaining what was happening. Here’s what was initially said by Dinklage:

It’s complicated. A lot of the time with Tyrion, it’s professional and personal. Obviously, he has feelings for Daenerys. He loves her — or thinks he does. She’s awe-inspiring. He’s questioning that because he doesn’t have a good track record for falling in love. There’s jealousy wrapped up in there. And he loves Jon Snow, too. They’re the two people he has the most in common with, in a way — they’re both outsiders in their own families who have refused to follow the path their family has taken, and hopefully for the better. He’s wondering how smart of a move [Jon and Dany getting romantically involved is], because passion and politics don’t mix well. He knows the two of them getting together could be very dangerous. We still have questions, right? Well, the GoT scripts are currently on display in L.A. at The Writers Guild of America West library and media outlets like Vanity Fair were able to get a firsthand look at these scripts which take the nuance out of what was happening and shed some light on what Tyrion’s actual feelings were in that final moment of Season 7.

Here’s an excerpt from Season 6:

“He studies her face. [. . .] Dany is staring into the distance so Tyrion is able to watch her from up close. Goddamn but she is beautiful. [. . .] He watches her for a beat too long and turns away. Lost in her own thoughts, she doesn’t notice that he’s flustered.” (via)

And here’s a more direct excerpt from Season 7 when Jamie was charging the dragon.

“The brother he loves races towards his probably death at the hands of the queen Tyrion also loves.” (via)

Certainly sounds like The Halfman is straight up in love with Daenerys, right? I can’t imagine this would ever cloud his judgment when it comes to following her politically but it could throw his friendship with Jon Snow down the crapper.
