Apparently, some people in Georgia didn’t do their research. Because two people who recently attempted to use a drone to drop a package stuffed with contraband into Washington State Prison were arrested. If they had only kept up with the local news.
Around 10:15 p.m. on Saturday, August 1, Washington State Prison staff reported to Washington County Sheriff’s Office deputies that they had heard what sounded like a drone dropping contraband inside the prison premises.
According to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, when deputies started investigating the area in an attempt to find the drone’s origin, they stopped a suspicious car while in the vicinity of the prison. During the stop, officers found proof of the prison drone drop and took the driver and passenger into custody.
Later, on the prison grounds, correctional officers at Washington State Prison discovered a bag that appeared to contain the contraband. 5.15 pounds of marijuana, 14.65 pounds of tobacco, 151.5 grams of ecstasy, 13.7 grams of hydrocodone, multiple cell phones with chargers, earbuds, lighters, and other random goods were found inside the bag.
It was the second time in a week that arrests were made for an attempt to use a drone for a prison drop
Making the arrest even more unusual is the fact that on Friday, July 24, Washington County deputies busted two men allegedly attempting to launch a drone with contraband into the same prison.
According to WJBF News, the deputies secured the drone along with several packages found at the scene and then with the assistance of a Georgia Department of Corrections K-9 team, began tracking the suspects.
Officers found one person a short distance from the scene and placed them under arrest. Ironically, authorities sent a drone unit and more personnel to help find the second suspect. The police took him into custody shortly thereafter.
About 26 pounds of marijuana, 2.2 pounds of methamphetamine, and 26 pounds of tobacco were found by deputies. Cigarettes, cigars, vapes, mobile phones and chargers, knives, shoes, clothes, speakers, lighters, booze, and suspected oxycodone and promethazine were among the other goods that were confiscated.
