Glen Powell was ruthlessly booed at halftime of a Georgia Bulldogs game on Saturday. Fans in Athens were asked to make him feel unwelcome while the 35-year-old led his fictional college football team onto the field at Sanford Stadium for a scene in his upcoming television show, Chad Powers.

The entire thing was planned, it had nothing to do with Powell’s allegiance toward either team.

Powell, the fastest-rising A-lister in Hollywood, signed on with Hulu for a comedy series loosely based on Eli Manning’s prank at Penn State in 2022. The two-time Super Bowl champion disguised himself as a walk-on named Chad Powers and crashed an open tryout. Only head coach James Franklin was in on the joke. Everybody else was blown away by how well “Chad” could sling the pill.

This new sit-com series is an extension of Manning’s prank, which led Manning to roast Powell for his football abilities. He offered to give him a few pointers.

Powell plays a disgraced college quarterback named Russ Holliday. Holliday’s career got away from him at his first school, so he disguises himself as Chad Powers and walks onto a struggling college football program in the South. Here is the (brief) first look:

Photos from earlier in September showed Powell on set in an Oregon Ducks uniform with a Rose Bowl patch. He was rocking a bleached blonde mullet, which likely indicates that the scene will serve as something of an origin story, before Holliday’s transformation into Powers. Georgia appeared to be his opponent.

Fast forward to Saturday.

Powell, dressed as Powers, wore a uniform for the fictional college at which he revives his career. The team’s primary colors are blue and yellow— but the blues are inconsistent between a navy blue and a Pittsburgh Panthers blue. The school’s acronym is ‘SG.’

92,000 Georgia fans were asked to stay in their seats at halftime while Hulu filmed a runout scene. They were asked to boo as loudly as possible when ‘SG’ ran onto the field. So they did!

Powell filmed a few different shots while down on the field.

If I had to guess, the storyline here has to do with Holliday’s Rose Bowl game at Oregon. I would imagine that he, disguised as Chad Powers, gets his shot at revenge on the road in front of a hostile crowd at Georgia.
