There’s more to it to buying a golf glove than just grabbing whichever fits. There are different styles and materials to consider. And this golfer, who was shopping for a new pair at Dick’s Sporting Goods, suggests there’s actually a smarter way to shop for one. Here’s what he says you need to think about beyond the brand on the label.

In a trending video with more than 30,000 views, content creator @aca_golf filmed himself in the golf glove section at a Dick’s Sporting Goods to share some buying advice.

“Buying golf gloves hack,” the text overlay on the video reads.

The golfer explains that the brand name isn’t really the important part.

“You get a Maxfli glove, sure, get a Titleist, whatever you want. That’s fine,” he says.

“If you get a glove at Dick’s Sporting Goods, get the insurance on it. It’s $3, when you have a hole in it every time, no ringer. Lock,” he says.

His bigger recommendation was about which type of glove to buy in the first place.

“The better play, in my opinion, get the rain glove. I know that’s a hot take,” he says.

He explains that he’s a “sweaty guy” and his hands sweat through gloves in one or two rounds, especially in the summer.

“So what I do, I wear the glove, pour a little water on it. Lasts three to five years. I just got a new glove for the first time in three years. It’s the way to go,” he adds.

What Dick’s Protection Plan Actually Covers

The add-on he’s talking about is Dick’s No Sweat Protection Plan, administered by Asurion, and gloves are explicitly named as a covered item under the plan’s General Merchandise category, according to Dick’s own plan page.

For gloves specifically, covered breakdowns include seam and stitching separation along with general normal wear-and-tear.

Coverage generally starts once the manufacturer’s warranty expires, and for a covered failure, Dick’s says it’ll repair or replace the item at no additional cost. If reimbursement is offered instead, it comes as an eGift card for the original purchase price before tax, which can be used toward the same product or something else entirely.

One thing worth flagging: the plan page currently advertises pricing as “starting at $6.99,” which is higher than the roughly $3 described in the video—so it seems the price has gone up.

According to Asurion’s own overview, there’s a “no lemon policy,” meaning if the same issue gets repaired three times and it breaks again, the item gets replaced outright rather than repaired a fourth time, and the coverage is transferable.

• Cabretta leather gloves. The most popular choice among amateurs and pros alike. Thinner and softer than other materials, offering the best feel and control, but leather tends to break down faster when it gets wet.
• Synthetic gloves. Often used in combination with other materials (bridging the knuckles or finger joints for flexibility), though some gloves are fully synthetic. More durable than leather, but with less natural feel.
• Wet weather gloves. Built from nylon and microfiber materials specifically so they perform better, not worse, as they get wet. The palm material actually grips more as moisture increases.
• Mesh gloves. Lightweight and breathable, suited to hot climates, though the tradeoff is a less natural feel and generally less grip than leather.
