After over a decade of waiting — it’s been 13 years since the release of GTA V, to be exact — the release of Grand Theft Auto VI is truly upon us, Rockstars Games has unveiled the official cover art and confirmed the date that pre-orders will begin.
Given the hype that’s followed it around for the better part of ten years, Grand Theft Auto VI‘s reputation precedes itself, as it occupied a space of virtual myth for so long and is now crossing over into reality. It’s already legendary and it hasn’t even been released yet.
Rockstar Games has confirmed the cover art and preorder date for Grand Theft Auto VI, releases video showing off Vice City
Preorders for GTA VI will begin on Thursday, June 25, ahead of the game’s official release on November 19. Rockstar Games did not announce a price point, but the base game is expected to retail at the standard $70 mark despite occasional rumors of a $100 cost.
In addition to the pre-order date and the cover art, an aerial view of Vice City — which will be the location of GTA VI after previously featuring in 2002’s Grand Theft Auto: Vice City — was also released, teasing the massive scale of the highly-anticipated game.

While the version of Vice City, based on Miami, that we saw in the 2002 game was set in 1986, GTA VI is set in the present day. The official synopsis for the game is as follows, via Rockstar Games:
“Jason and Lucia have always known the deck is stacked against them. But when an easy score goes wrong, they find themselves on the darkest side of the sunniest place in America, in the middle of a criminal conspiracy stretching across the state of Leonida — forced to rely on each other more than ever if they want to make it out alive.”
While an official map of Vice City in GTA VI has not been officially confirmed by Rockstar, avid fans of the game have been speculating about the scale of the game for years, basing their takes on rumors, leaks, and their own personal expectations.
The consensus, though, seems to be that the GTA VI map will far outgrow the massive confines of its predecessors, Grand Theft Auto V.
