A ‘Green Hornet’ Reboot Is Officially In The Works

Yet another iconic character from decade’s past is on the verge of being revived, as reports indicate that a new Green Hornet reboot is in the works at Amasia Entertainment.

The last time audiences saw the Green Hornet character was back in 2011 when Seth Rogen, Cameron Diaz, and Christoph Waltz starred in the Michel Gondry-directed flop.

Amasia Entertainment, the banner of former Marvel Studios president Michael Helfant and Bradley Gallo, has won the motion picture rights to the classic pulp crime-fighting hero.

Over time, the rights to Hornet have been controlled by Universal, Dimension, Columbia and most recently, Paramount, which was developing a hard-edged and grounded take with director Gavin O’Connor. The rights lapsed last year.

“This is one of the only stand-alone classic superhero franchises,” Helfant said in a statement. “We’re a bunch of fan geeks at Amasia and are thrilled about creating something fresh and truly worthy of this legacy property. A new world that is relevant and thrilling, while respecting and honoring the original vision of creator George W. Trendle.” [via The Hollywood Reporter]

Green Hornet first began as an iconic television series in the 1960s that starred starring Van Williams as the Green Hornet/Britt Reid and Bruce Lee as Kato. The series was also recently brought back into the pop-culture consciousness last summer in Quentin Tarantino’s ninth film Once Upon A Time… In Hollywood.
