The First ‘GTA VI’ Trailer Has Finally Been Released

It’s been more than a decade since the release of the most recent installment in the Grand Theft Auto franchise, and fans of the video games have spent years hoping to get their first glimpse at GTA VI. It took longer than anyone would have liked, but that highly-anticipated moment has finally arrived.

There was little doubt the folks at Rockstar Games had started working on GTA VI at some point toward the end of the 2010s, and those suspicions were officially confirmed when a massive leak surfaced in 2022.

While the developer did what it could to wipe that footage from the internet, it also admitted the files were genuine while confirming a new title was in the works. However, it still kept a pretty tight lid on its plans concerning a potential timeline.

That all changed last month when Rockstar announced it was dropping the first official trailer for GTA VI on December 5th, and at long last, the day has finally arrived.

As you can see, GTA VI will officially be transporting players back to Vice City, which served as the backdrop for the Grand Theft Auto game that was released all the way back in 2002 (unlike that title, it will be set in the modern day as opposed to the 1980s, although using “Love Is a Long Road” by Tom Petty is a nice throwback to the decade).

It should come as no surprise it will  seemingly feature multiple protagonists in the form of the Bonnie and Clyde criminal duo that appear to be at the center when you consider thatnew standard was set by GTA V, and rumors that it will boast the first playable female character in franchise history also seem to be confirmed.

One of the more surprising developments is that it won’t be released until an unspecified date in 2025, which makes you wonder if there’s merit to the theory it will come out on April 1st of that year (although Rockstar could be playing the long con when you consider that just so happens to be April Fools’ Day).

There’s little doubt diehard fans will spend the coming days poring over the trailer while analyzing every single frame, but for now, we can simply appreciate that the long wait is over and start gearing up for what’s in store.
