Rob Reiner's eldest son has spoken publicly for the first time
Eight months after losing both of his parents on the same night at the hands of his brother Nick (allegedly), Jake Reiner has spoken out publicly for the first time. The eldest Reiner child described the last eight months as a “living nightmare.”
Jake Reiner, the 34-year-old eldest son of director Rob Reiner, recently sat down with KABC-TV’s Marc Cota-Robles for his first on-camera interview since December 2025, when his parents were found stabbed to death at their Brentwood home.
His 32-year-old younger brother Nick is currently in custody facing two counts of first-degree murder. He was formally indicted on two counts of first-degree murder by a Los Angeles grand jury earlier this month and has been held without bail at Twin Towers Correctional Facility in Los Angeles.
Jake Reiner gave his first interview since his parents’ deaths, describing the past eight months as a “living nightmare”
“Nobody really understands what it’s like to go through something like that until you’re living it.It’s been eight months. It feels like eight years at the same time. And it also feels like eight minutes. Because every moment that I wake up, I’m reminded of my reality,” Jake said.
“For me, it manifests into anger. It manifests into rage, into how unfair this was, how I didn’t get a say in what happened. I didn’t get to stop it from happening. I had no choice in the matter. I just have to accept the reality of it. And to me, that is just one of the most infuriating parts of all of this.”
Jake described learning what happened through a phone call from his sister Romy, who had discovered their father’s body across the street from her apartment. “Romy told me our dad was dead and then she said, ‘I can’t find Mom.'” Romy, 28, has been one of the prosecution’s grand jury witnesses in the case against Nick.
While Jake declined to discuss his brother in detail, he did imply that he lost Nick alongside his parents, albeit in a different way.
“You know, it’s like I physically lost my parents. And then Nick was arrested. And now it’s me and Romy,” he added.
Nick’s pretrial hearing is scheduled for September 15, and prosecutors have not yet indicated whether they will pursue the death penalty.
Ron Reiner, who was 78 years old, was a longtime Hollywood actor, writer, director, and producer who was best known for his work on beloved movies such as This Is Spinal Tap, Stand By Me, The Princess Bride, When Harry Met Sally…, Misery, and A Few Good Men.
