It’s now been over three years since the release of No Time To Die in 2021, Daniel Craig’s final movie as James Bond, meaning that 2025 will certainly be the year that the producers behind the iconic franchise ramp up production on the new one.
While most of the speculation about the next iteration of James Bond has been about who will play the character, who will direct the film is equally important, as evidenced by the series’ recent history.
And according to new rumors out of the UK, the next director could be Oscar-winner Steve McQueen.
McQueen, 55, has directed five feature films so far in his career: Hunger, Shame, 12 Years a Slave (which won Best Picture), Widows, and Blitz (which will hit AppleTV+ later this month).
He also helmed the acclaimed 2020 anthology TV series Small Axe, which was a collection of five films, ranging from a little over an hour long to a full two-hour-plus feature.
“The 12 Years a Slave director has caught the attention of James Bond bosses. A source said: ‘Steve is one of the UK’s best filmmakers and has an incredible vision. The word is that the Bond producers wanted to see if Steve would ever consider having a hand in one of the films and they got a positive response.'” [via The Sun]
As for who will be the next actor to play 007, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, who will next be seen headlining Kraven the Hunter, has long been rumored to be the favorite for the role.
Other actors that appear on betting markets to play the next James Bond are Paul Mescal, James Norton, Henry Cavill, Damson Idris, Harris Dickinson, Rege-Jean Page, Callum Turner, Theo James, and Jack Lowden.
