- After 15 years in the role, Daniel Craig walked away from playing James Bond after no time to die.
- As such, the search for the next 007 has begun.
- During a recent interview, Bond producer Barbara Broccoli revealed that Idris Elba has been “part of the conversation.”
For half a decade now, when it comes to the conversation of who the next James Bond should be, Idris Elba’s name has usually always found itself at or near the top of most fans’ wish lists. And had Daniel Craig walked away from the role following 2015’s Spectre, Elba, then 44-years-old, would’ve been a no-brainer of a choice.
However, as we all now know, Craig ultimately stayed in 007’s tux for one more film, 2021’s No Time To Die. As a result of that extended stay in the role, Elba, like the rest of us, has aged since then and is now approaching 50-years-old, which makes the decision to cast Elba in the role a bit more complicated.
Still, despite this, during a recent interview with Deadline, James Bond steward Barbara Broccoli revealed that the 49-year-old Englishman remains “part of the conversation” when it comes to playing the role in the future.
“We know Idris, I’m friends with him,” Broccoli told Deadline. “He’s a magnificent actor. You know, [Elba has] been part of the conversation, but it’s always difficult to have a conversation when you have somebody in the seat.”
Should Elba be cast in the role, you’d have to imagine that they’d only get two, MAYBE three movies out of him, as playing a super spy once you’re in your mid-50s becomes quite difficult. Just ask Daniel Craig.
