Given that he’s both his brother and seemingly his best friend, Jason Kelce has had a front-row seat to Travis Kelce’s whirlwind romance with pop star Taylor Swift.
Speaking to Peter King at NBC Sports, the elder Kelce brother admitted that Travis’ relationship with Taylor Swift, one of the most famous women in the world, has “certainly been weird” and “a lot.”
Still, despite that, Jason has full confidence in his brother’s ability to navigate the situation.
“It’s certainly been weird, the level that it is now,” Kelce said.
“On one hand, I’m happy for my brother that he seems to be in a relationship that he’s excited about, that he is genuine about. But there’s another end of it where it’s like, ‘Man, this is a lot.’ There’s paparazzi talking about him fueling his car before the game today and I’m like, ‘Is that really necessary information to share?’” he explained.
Kelce also explained how the level of fame that Taylor Swift is at is far beyond anything that even the NFL’s biggest stars usually deal with.
“This is another level of stardom that typically football players don’t deal with. And so on one hand, really, really happy for my brother and where he’s at in his current situation with Taylor but on the other hand, there’s some, I think, alarms sometimes with how you know, over-in-pursuit people can be. Overall, he can deal with some of this. As long as it’s not, you know, becoming a threat to his safety and things like that.”
While Jason Kelce’s assessment of the situation is certainly accurate, there’s also the fact that the NFL has happily leaned into the attention, even at the cost of angering some longtime fans.
There are also direct benefits of the fame for Travis, who was already appearing in tons of commercials and will likely only feature in more — not to mention the fact that the pair’s New Heights podcast has also seen a massive boom in downloads.
This weekend, Jason’s Philadelphia Eagles will be on the road to take on the Washington Commanders while Travis’ Kansas City Chiefs will be in Denver to battle the Broncos.
