Back in the early 2000s, Jessica Simpson was one of pop music’s “It Girls” alongside the likes of Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Mandy Moore, and so on.
Simpson’s fame hit its apex in 2005 when she starred as the iconic Daisy Duke alongside Johnny Knoxville and Sean William Scott in a remake of The Dukes of Hazzard.
In the following years, however, Simpson’s fame would wain as she went on to start a family. The former pop star also had a struggle with alcoholism, as evidenced by the photo of herself that she shared on Instagram back in 2017 in which she says she looks “unrecognizable.”
While Simpson originally posted the photo in 2021, she re-shared it on her Instagram Stories on Thursday to make the six-year anniversary of the post, captioning the post “6 years ago.”
“This person in the early morning of Nov 1, 2017 is an unrecognizable version of myself. I had so much self discovery to unlock and explore. I knew in this very moment I would allow myself to take back my light, show victory over my internal battle of self respect, and brave this world with piercing clarity,” Simpson wrote in the caption of the 2021 post.
“Personally, to do this I needed to stop drinking alcohol because it kept my mind and heart circling in the same direction and quite honestly I was exhausted. I wanted to feel the pain so I could carry it like a badge of honor,” she continued.
Most recently, Simpson released a memoir back in 2020 titled Open Book, which topped the New York Times Best Seller list when it was first released.
In addition to appearing in films such as The Dukes of Hazzard and Employee of the Month alongside Dane Cook (remember him?), Simpson is also known for her studio albums Sweet Kisses (1999), Irresistible (2001), and In This Skin (2003).
She would also release the albums ReJoyce: The Christmas Album in 2004, A Public Affair in 2006, Do You Know in 2008, and Happy Christmas in 2010.
