Jim Carrey is set to star in a live-action 'The Jetsons' movie
Since 2016, Jim Carrey has only appeared in Sonic the Hedgehog movies, as he’s starred as Dr. Ivo “Eggman” Robotnik in each of the franchise’s three films, with a four on the way next year. According to reports, he’s now signed on to play the lead in a live-action The Jetsons movie.
In a recent letter to its shareholders, Warner Bros. Discovery confirmed the development of a live-action The Jetsons movie with Jim Carrey as it touted its projects slated for 2028 and beyond.

Warner Bros. also teased The Batman: Part II, a Game of Thrones movie based on Aegon’s Conquest, and a new Matrix movie.
“Beyond 2027, the slate will continue to leverage iconic intellectual property, including the theatrical event film Aegon’s Conquest from the Game of Thrones universe, the next installment of The Matrix, the next Batman film, and a live-action Jetsons film starring Jim Carrey,” the letter to shareholders reads.
At this time, however, Carrey is the only talent attached to the project, as no director nor co-stars have been announced.
The Jetsons was a Hanna-Barbera animated sitcom that debuted in 1962 and ran in various forms through the late 1980s. Set in 2062, the series followed the Jetson family — patriarch George, a white-collar worker at Spacely Sprockets; his wife Jane; teenage daughter Judy; young son Elroy; and their robotic maid Rosie — as they navigated everyday domestic life in a futuristic world.
The show was essentially a futuristic counterpart to Hanna-Barbera’s The Flintstones, as they were both featured the core premise of a mid-century American nuclear family transplanted into an entirely different era.
Despite its original run being just 24 episodes in 1962-63, the show became a genuine cultural institution through decades of reruns. New episodes were produced for syndication from 1985 to 1987, bringing the series’ total to 75 episodes across three seasons. A theatrical film, Jetsons: The Movie, was also released in 1990 that served as a series finale to the television show.
As for Carrey, his previous work outside of the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise came in 2016 when he starred in the films The Bad Batch and Dark Crimes. The Sonic franchise, which began in 2020, has been a success, as the three films have combined to gross around $1.25 billion at the global box office.
