Catelyn Wiseman (@catelynwiseman) was caught off guard after discovering what appears to be gauze in her Jimmy John's sandwich.

At any restaurant, you expect a level of hygiene and care—even if it’s a sandwich chain like Jimmy John’s. However, after a sickening discovery in her sub, one customer was left horrified.

The video shows Catelyn Wiseman (@catelynwiseman) holding lettuce to the camera. It zooms in to show the gauze or cloth-like object between someone’s fingers. They appear to be eating in a dimly lit room but have their camera flashlight on, getting a better look at what the material is.

“Are we kidding?” a female voice, presumably Wiseman’s, asks. “This is supposed to be lettuce!”

She then proceeds to tear the gauze into smaller bits.

Following that, Wiseman says to the other person, “What else? Is there more down there?”

He replies by saying, “Yes, tons.”

The camera then pans to the Jimmy John’s paper, which reveals more gauze mixed in with salad.

“Is it all like that?” the TikToker asks.

“This is all like that,” the other man confirms.

Wiseman replied, “I told you so.”

Both of them, in turn, show chunks of gauze to the camera, stretching and tearing to show how extensive it is. Then, Wiseman picks up a whole pile of it, exclaiming to the other person, “Look at that!” The man tears into it.

“I mean, it’s hard to pull its literally cloth,” he later adds.

“That’s not lettuce,” Wiseman insists.

“It’s like cloth,” the man confirms.

Also on the screen was text tagging Jimmy John’s. Addressing the food outlet directly, the text read, “THERE WAS FABRIC OR GAUZE OR SOMETHING IN MY SANDWICH.”

The video has amassed 497,600 views.

BroBible reached out to the TikToker via TikTok direct message and Jimmy John’s parent company via email.

What Was In This Jimmy John’s Sub?

In the comments, many users made their own unusual assumptions.

“That is 3D printed food,” one wrote. “It’s real look it up.”

“They wash and soak their lettuce in bleach btw,” a second said.

“That is a disposable washcloth that got scooped up with the lettuce as it was being chopped,” a third guessed.

Others were just plain disgusted.

“Oh h— nawl… see these jobs don’t pay enough so they end up hiring people who don’t care about nothing and things like this happen.,” a fourth complained. “Sue them!”

Meanwhile, a fifth added, “This is exactly why we should be acting in unison and holding the FDA and EPA accountable. Forget being legal.”

A former Jimmy John’s worker also stepped in.

“As a former JJ manager, they’re supposed to be slicing just heads of lettuce daily,” they commented. “We didn’t use any paper products to do it. Idk how TF they got cloth? sliced in there. Maybe they put paper towels at the bottom of their lettuce bin? Either way, get your refund friend.”

Jimmy John’s Customer Receives Unusual Little John

This isn’t the first time a Jimmy John’s customer has ended up feeling less than satisfied with their order.

Back in March, TikTok user Emily (@emilyswiftie1699) showed viewers the Little John sub she received from Jimmy John’s. Usually, as the name implies, Little Johns are meant to be a lighter, 300-calorie snack compared to their usual sub sandwiches.

As she held her sub—which was enveloped in bread and had sparser ingredients—to the camera, she said, “Hey, Jimmy John’s. What is this? Yes, it’s a Little John, but what is this?”

In the video, she also mentioned that she felt the sandwich was too small compared to what she thought she was getting.

Still, shrinkflation is nothing compared to potentially finding what looks like medical-grade gauze in your meal. Still, according to Inland Choice Dental, swallowing small bits of gauze is unlikely to cause harm. It’s just really, really gross.
