Regardless of how you feel about Harry Potter author JK Rowling’s social and political opinions, it’s hard to deny that the woman is committed.

Despite the fact that her views on transgender people have largely alienated her from the fandom she single-handedly created, Rowling remains entrenched in her ways, as evidenced by her latest comments about being willing to go to jail over her views.

Rowling appeared to be responding to a story in the Mail on Sunday, which reported that a Labour government in Britain could make gender identity attacks a criminal offense.

Critics told the newspaper that it could result in prison sentences for those who refuse to use a transgender person’s preferred pronouns. [via Deadline]

Not only did Rowling claim she was willing to be imprisoned but the 58-year-old author also said she would do so “happily.”

“I’ll happily do two years if the alternative is compelled speech and forced denial of the reality and importance of sex. Bring on the court case, I say. It’ll be more fun than I’ve ever had on a red carpet,” Rowling tweeted.

“Hoping for the library, obviously, but I think I could do okay in the kitchen,” she said while attempting to humorously imagine her life in prison. “Laundry might be a problem. I have a tendency to shrink stuff/turn it pink accidentally. Guessing that won’t be a major issue if it’s mostly scrubs and sheets, though.”

Ironically, Rowling is currently working on a series of crime fiction novels called Cormoran Strike and publishes the books under a pseudonym: Robert Galbraith. The seventh novel, titled The Running Grave, was just released in September.
