While the now-dead DCEU was famously a disaster for many years, one of the best parts of the franchise was Joel Kinnaman’s performance as Rick Flagg in 2016’s Suicide Squad and 2021’s The Suicide Squad.

The latter of the two was directed by James Gunn, who is now the co-CEO and creative mastermind behind DC Studios and the soon-to-be-launched DCU franchise.

Speaking to Kinnaman ahead of the release of his new film Silent Night

“Now that James Gunn is in charge of DC,” we asked, “Is there a part of you that’s like, ‘What the hell, James? Did you really have to kill me off?'”

“Yeah, you know, but I love that scene, though, it was such a good way to go” Kinnaman said of the moment his character is killed by John Cena’s Peacemaker in The Suicide Squad.

“But, yeah, for sure, maybe I’ll come back and play some nasty villain.”

Kinnaman will next be seen starring in John Woo’s Christmas revenge action thriller Silent Night, which hits theaters on Friday, December 1. Earlier this year, Kinnaman also starred in the film Sympathy for the Devil alongside Nicolas Cage and in the fourth season of the hit AppleTV+ series For All Mankind.

Alongside Kinnaman, Silent Night stars Scott Mescudi (Kid Cudi), Harold Torres, Catalina Sandino Moreno, and more.
