Tons of new details about 'Grand Theft Auto VI' have been released
The hype for Grand Theft Auto VI has surpassed perhaps every game in the history of video games. Its marketing strategy looks set to be bigger than anything the industry has ever seen before, too.
Earlier today, an exclusive preview of Grand Theft Auto VI was released on Netflix in addition to numerous new reports about the game. The map, for instance, is set to be three times bigger than the one featured in Rockstar Games’ 2018 smash hit Red Dead Redemption 2.
Rockstar Games pitched Miami-Dade County on turning city signs and public spaces into ‘Vice City’ branding ahead of GTA VI’s November launch
Another fascinating detail about the Grand Theft Auto VI rollout has to do with its marketing strategy: Rockstar Games reportedly submitted a pitch deck to Miami-Dade County officials on June 29 proposing a real-world Vice City takeover tied to the game’s launch.
The proposal, obtained by The Miamian through a public records request, envisions transforming county-owned public spaces into GTA VI-branded installations — including Miami International Airport, PortMiami, Metrorail and Metromover stations, Tropical Park, and Rickenbacker Beach.
At Miami International Airport, the plan would see a display aircraft wrapped in Vice City logos, GTA VI-inspired baggage carousels, themed luggage carts, and limited-edition luggage tags, while Downtown Miami Metromover cars would be wrapped in Vice City colors with branded signage at major stations.
At PortMiami, Rockstar proposed a large mural incorporating cargo containers, cranes, and cruise ships. Tropical Park would host a “family-appropriate” celebration of Miami car culture featuring lowriders, DJs, and branded photo installations.
“Nothing has been formally agreed to or approved, and any idea would have to go through the appropriate review and approval process,” Miami-Dade County spokesperson Carlos Suarez said. “Given Miami-Dade’s clear influence on the game, we think there could be a unique opportunity to generate revenue for the County while showcasing Miami-Dade to a massive audience.”
While Vice City — which was previously featured in 2002’s Grand Theft Auto: Vice City — has long been based on Miami, Grand Theft Auto VI will be bringing the area to life with the sort of groundbreaking world-building detail that could potentially revolutionize video games: various open-world activites will be playable such as mini golf, kayaking, scuba diving, exercise, parachuting, characters will be able to gain and lose weight based on their habits, the nature of the relationship between the two lead characters Jason and Lucia can change based on the attention paid to it; and much more.
