John Mayer Just Dropped A Summer Jam Referencing ‘Pushing 40 In The Friend Zone’

Pretty fun day if you’re into John Mayer and his funky jams. Mayer just released his first new music since dropping his album The Search For Everything last year,  with a record he’s referring  as his “summer bop.” It’s called New Light and it’s, indeed, a summer bop, complete with funky riffs and Mayer dropping some wildly fun compositions on a beat machine. There’s also this wildly fun lyric referring to Mayer being “pushing 40 in the friend zone” that’ captures the cultural imagination. We’re talking about Mayer, here, after all.

Mayer just hit 40 this year, so that’s one of those fun, semi-autobiographical/self-depreciating lines that deserves the smirk emoji a million times.

Enjoy the jam above and on all your favorite music streaming platforms, linked below. If you’re *REALLY* feelin’ it, you’ll love the conversation Mayer and Zane Lowe had on Beats One Radio this morning.

And one last note: Don’t sleep on Mayer’s original Online Ceramics merch for this drop. Those dudes are good dudes and they design some of the best original ‘fits in the game.
