We are only days away from the theater release of John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum and if somehow you were not amped to check out the hitman extravaganza then maybe these stirring reviews will get you excited.
Rotten Tomatoes has compiled 40 reviews for John Wick 3 thus far and they are damn near perfect. Rotten Tomatoes’ Tomatometer gives John Wick 3 a score of 98%. For comparison, the original John Wick (2014) scored 87% on 205 reviews and the sequel John Wick: Chapter 2 (2017) notched 89% on 255 reviews.
Of the John Wick 3 reviews, 39 gave it a positive “Fresh” score and ONE movie reviewer gave it a negative “Rotten” assessment. That one Negative Nancy reviewer was Variety’s Andrew Barker, who seems to give the assassin flick praise despite the “Rotten” rating. “So here’s the thing. John Wick 3 has action sequences that are as good as anything you’ll see all year,” Barker says. “Keanu Reeves remains the best. People are going to love this movie.”
As for the other 39 positive reviews of John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, they applaud the film for its marvelous gunfight choreography and an action movie masterpiece. They even hail the third installment of the franchise to be the greatest.
“If you were to ask someone what the greatest action movie ever made was, and they said ‘the first thirty minutes of John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum,’ they’d have a point,” gushed William Bibbiani from Bloody Disgusting.
“The year’s best action film, and if anything comes along and surpasses it I shall kneel before the filmmakers and pledge my fealty,” said Sean Mulvihill, fanboynation.com
“With John Wick 3, Reeves has finally made another action movie on par with The Matrix,” wrote Edward Douglas of The Beat.
“They ought to install seatbelts in theaters for this rip-roaring ride,” said Courtney Howard from Fresh Fiction.
“Remain safely seated, with your hands, arms, feet, and legs inside the ride… Parabellum is the movie equivalent of a 3D experience at the amusement park,” said Sherin Nicole of idobi.com.
So how does it compare to the other two John Wick films?
“Better,” the critics say. “It’s the best film of the franchise so far, even surpassing the first film,” said Mike Ryan of Uproxx.
“Hands down, the most giddily brutal and bananas film in the series to date,” Chris Nashawaty from Entertainment Weekly said.
“Everything about John Wick: Chapter 3 is better than Chapter 2, from the fantastic cinematography to the editing and the score,” Edward Douglas of The Beat boasts.
“The choreography by far surpasses anything done in JW1 and it will make you forget JW2 altogether,” lauded Karen Han of Polygon.
Critics especially love the masterful action sequences.
“Every fight scene here is a sumptuous martial arts infused treat, in which we get a taste of fight-styles from all over the planet, executed by masters of those styles,” wrote Sherin Nicole for idobi.com.
“It’s the most incredible action cinema we’ve seen since Mad Max: Fury Road,” applauds William Bibbiani of Bloody Disgusting.
People are also infatuated with Halle Berry’s dog-loving character Sofia and demand a spinoff.
“It’s Berry leaning into the fray with refined stoicism and swagger who steals the spotlight. Her work here begs for a spin-off,” wrote Courtney Howard of Fresh Fiction.
“I have no doubt people will be demanding a spin-off with her tough-as-nails, dog-loving Sofia,” JimmyO from Jo Blo’s Movie Emporium.
“If Stahelski and Reeves can continue delivering this kind of quality and consistency, then as far as I’m concerned, they can make a dozen of these films and it still wouldn’t be enough,” wrote Brent Hankins of The Lamplight Review.
John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum hits theaters on May 17th.
