The first trailer for Joker: Folie à Deux, the sequel to 2019’s billion-dollar-grossing hit Joker, has been released.

In addition to Joaquin Phoenix returning as Joker, the role that won him his first-ever Academy Award for Best Actor, Joker: Folie à Deux also features Grammy winner Lady Gaga as his infamous partner in both love and crime, Harley Quinn.

On Tuesday, April 9, Warner Bros. dropped the first look at footage from the film, which appears to see Phoenix’s Arthur Fleck/Joker standing outside of Arkham Asylum in the rain.

The teaser also promises that the first full trailer for the film will be released at 9:30 p.m. EST on March 9 (this article will be updated with the trailer when it’s live).

Directed by Todd Phillips, the film will be released exactly five years after Joker, which is the highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time (although that record might be tested this summer with the release of Deadpool 3).

Joker not only provided the vehicle for Phoenix to win the Academy Award for Best Actor but was also nominated in another 10 categories, including Best Picture.

Alongside Phoenix and Gaga, Joker: Folie à Deux stars Zazie Beetz (reprising her role from the first film), Steve Coogan, Brendan Gleeson, Catherine Keener, Jacob Lofland and Harry Lawtey. Joker: Folie à Deux is set to be the third major film role of Gaga’s acting career following A Star is Born in 2018 and House of Gucci in 2021.

Joker: Folie à Deux will be released in movie theaters in the United States on Friday, October 4. Joker can currently be streamed on Warner Bros’ MAX service.
