Beloved comedian Jon Stewart is set to return as the host of Comedy Central’s The Daily Show throughout the 2024 election, according to reports.

Stewart previously hosted the show from 1999 to 2015 and has spent recent years working on The Problem with Jon Stewart on AppleTV+. The native New Yorker has also spent much of the last decade working as an outspoken advocate for getting 9/11 first responders the care they need.

Stewart will return as host on February 12 and will host the show on Monday nights throughout the 2024 election, which is shaping up to be a rematch between Donald Trump and Joe Biden. The 61-year-old is also set to be an executive producer of the series on the nights he’s not hosting.

“Friends. After much reflection I have decided to enter the transfer portal for my last year of eligibility. Excited for the future!” Stewart said on Twitter after the news broke.

In addition to hosting this year, Stewart is also set to remain on board as an executive producer through 2025.

Stewart’s return to The Daily Show is big news for a few reasons, the primary of which being that he was not on the air for either of Donald Trump’s presidential candidacies in 2016 and 2020, which means this will be his first opportunity to share his opinions about the indicted former President on Comedy Central’s airwaves as host of The Daily Show.

“Jon Stewart is the voice of our generation, and we are honored to have him return to Comedy Central’s The Daily Show to help us all make sense of the insanity and division roiling the country as we enter the election season. In our age of staggering hypocrisy and performative politics, Jon is the perfect person to puncture the empty rhetoric and provide much-needed clarity with his brilliant wit,” said Chris McCarthy, the President and CEO of Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios, in a statement.

Ever since Stewart’s predecessor Trevor Noah stepped down in late 2022, the series has been unable to find a permanent host and has instead used a rotating cast of hosts, including previous Daily Show correspondents and celebrity guests.
