Twitter is not a place for trolls, but THE place for trolls. You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy. There are various types of trolls on Twitter from grifters to people trying to dunk on others to the President of the United States. However, there are some individuals who go far past trolling and into assholery. One Twitter user called the police because a Target employee wouldn’t sell him a toothbrush for $0.01.

David Leavitt is a Twitter user who is self-described as a “multimedia journalist who has worked for CBS, AXS, Yahoo, and others.” On Friday afternoon, Leavitt tweeted out his experience of attempting to profit off an innocent mistake.

Apparently, a Target in Massachusetts accidentally priced an Oral-B Pro 5000 electric toothbrush for $0.01, which is typically priced at $89.99. Leavitt demanded that the store sell the mispriced toothbrush for a penny. Leavitt went on a Karen-like rampage and demanded to speak to the store manager. The Target employee named “Tori” declined to sell the toothbrush for a penny because it was an obvious mistake.

Leavitt posted photos of the toothbrush, price sticker, and Tori on Twitter with the caption: “This @target manager Tori is not honoring the price of their items per massachusetts law.” Leavitt escalated the dumb situation by calling the police because Tori wouldn’t honor the penny price.

Leavitt wrote on Twitter: “The police verified @target displayed the price of toothbrush for $0.01 The store manager Tori refused to sell me the toothbrush for displayed price. The police said I need to sue them and that they are making me a verified report take to court @BBBConnection.”

It should be noted that the price sticker says “DISPLAY.”

One Twitter user wrote that Leavitt was incorrect in his assessment that Target violated the law. Twitter user @KDbyProxy posted the Code of Massachusetts Regulations title 940, which states:

… the seller shall have no obligation to sell such item at the lowest represented price if it is the result of a gross error … A ‘gross error’ is a price which was never intended as the selling price at any time during the previous 30 day period, and which, for an item with an actual selling price of not more than $20.00, is less than half the price stated by the seller as the actual selling price, or which, for an item with an actual selling price of more than $20.00, is more than 20% below the amount stated by the seller as the actual selling price.

Leavitt also claimed that he hadn’t been to a dentist in over three years. However, Leavitt wrote that he was at the dentist in April of 2018.

Leavitt’s tweets went viral, which is what he was gunning for the entire time, more so than getting a toothbrush for a penny. The internet saw how crappy of a move it was to publicly shame a Target employee for just doing her job, and let David know while also ratioing Leavitt hard.

Leavitt wanted to publicly shame Tori, but it backfired big time.

There was even a GoFundMe created to send Target Tori on a vacation after her encounter with Leavitt. At the time of publication, the crowdfunding campaign raised over $17,000.

Leavitt is so desperate for attention on Twitter that he mocked the death of Anthony Bourdain and made a “joke” about the explosion that killed 22 people and injured 59 near the Manchester arena in England following an Ariana Grande concert.
