A couple was shocked to learn that the Airbnb was haunted after the fact. I actually conducted a paranormal investigation at the same place.
A woman unknowingly booked a stay at a historically haunted location in Park City, Kentucky. And it wasn’t until she started researching her Airbnb booking that she learned it’s a destination for paranormal investigators.
I’d like to formally apologize to Meg (@meggymoosey). That’s because the American Paranormal Research Association didn’t exactly help keep the Grand Victorian Inn’s ghostly past a secret. I filmed there with Brandon Alvis and the rest of our crew for season 1 of “Haunted Discoveries.” Stories of guests being awoken by inexplicable footsteps and invisible voices beckoned us to visit.
The inn’s tragic past and history of documented deaths are a point of intrigue. Nearby railroad tracks held a direct connection to the Inn’s original founder, who died on the property.
Meg didn’t know any of this, however. She wasn’t privy to the bizarre occurrences that prompted spooked visitors of the Grand Victorian to never set foot in the building again. Nor did she know a purported 80 funerals were held inside the inn’s walls. Or that it operated as a nursing home for 10 years, with 13 reported deaths on site during that time.
Ultimately, the variety of reports about the inn’s hauntings left Meg and her travel companion petrified after booking their stay. “Our Airbnb is notoriously haunted and visited by Ghost Hunters,” she wrote in a social media post about her reservation. In the short clip, she looks at online videos detailing the Grand Victorian’s ghostly activity.
‘We Packed Everything Up’
If you’re wondering whether or not Meg and her friend witnessed anything supernatural there, she didn’t. Mainly because she only spent 45 minutes at the location before ultimately deciding to call it quits. In a follow-up video regarding her stay, Meg says that while she didn’t witness anything out of the ordinary while there, she had to bounce. She explains that she and her friends psyched themselves out knowing the Grand Victorian’s history of uncanny occurrences.
Moreover, she appeared bummed out that she wasn’t going to get to enjoy the hotel. Because in spite of its association with the unknown, she originally booked it due to its charm and beauty. “Not even 45 minutes later we packed everything up. Ran out and booked an Airbnb because we were terrified,” she wrote in a text overlay of her supplemental video. Meg then breaks down why she and her buddy opted to get out of dodge. “We are in this inn right now. … [We] were so excited for it. And then we found out that people had like paranormal experiences here. When we first got here it did kind of spook us out a little bit,” she says.
However, Meg chalks this up to the fact that there weren’t any other people inside of the hotel at the time of her stay. “I think because we were like the only people here. And we were walking around the house … we found like a doll collection … there’s Abraham Lincoln everywhere,” she opines, describing the fixtures that made her uneasy. That being said, she did describe the inn as a splendid place to stay for the less skittish. “But it’s really beautiful. And I think online misinformation has gotten to us. Because nothing has happened, nothing weird has happened,” she says.
Kentucky’s Filled With Scare-bnbs

When it came to the historic Park City fixture, we noticed strange happenings coincided with train crossings. We were able to document weird environmental aberrations, such as changes in pressure and electromagnetic frequency spikes. But the most unnerving (or intriguing) find was a disembodied voice our team captured in real time at the Grand Victorian.
The Bluegrass State’s embrace of all things eerie makes sense. It’s known as being one of the most haunted states in America. With a massive footprint of historic buildings, it’s almost impossible to walk down any historic district and not find at least one ghost story per block. Take the Louisville Bourbon Inn, for instance. We were able to record a black shadow figure walking up a staircase there. An apparition that directly resembles a decades-long ghost claim regarding the inn’s resident spirit: Annie Whipple. In the same neighborhood, you have the DuPont Mansion, where we recorded other strange happenings that defied logic.
And even if you roll your eyes at such talk, Meg did actually voice a fear that many inn owners have told us in our travels. They’re legitimately worried that spooky stories associated with their properties could keep paying customers away. In fact, we’ve been denied numerous investigation requests as a consequence of this same worry.
