Pour One Out For Bento, Internet Legend ‘Keyboard Cat’ Has Passed Away At The Age Of 9-Years-Old

Sad day folks. Bento, aka Keyboard Cat, just played himself off as we have learned that he has passed away at the age of 9-years-old. Moment of silence, please.

Charlie Schmidt, Keyboard Cat’s owner, posted a video tribute to the famous feline over the weekend, breaking the news to his millions of fans. His final contribution to the internet was the video you see above, published on February 11th.

Little known fact: Bento was not the original Keyboard Cat. When Schmidt’s video went viral in 2009, it was actually shot 12 years previous starring the “original” Keyboard Cat, Fatso, who sadly had already headed off to the great litter box in the sky.

While searching for a replacement, Schmidt found Bento in an animal shelter, which later led to him starring as a part of a series of public service announcements trying increase pet adoption.

Keyboard Cat continued his viral fame through the years when he was used in an updated meme the involved him “playing people off.”

Over those years, Keyboard Cat has put out a Greatest Hits album, had his own Facebook page, store, and, naturally, had his own YouTube channel.

He even met Grumpy Catsort of.

Now the internet world mourns the loss of one of its own.
